Rural Housing Week 2023
Welcome to Rural Housing Week!
Rural Housing Week is an annual campaign that showcases the vital work housing associations do in rural communities.
The challenges facing housing in rural communities remain significant with rural economies lagging on key metrics such as pay, productivity and infrastructure, so it’s more important than ever to help shine a light on some of the big rural housing issues – and solutions.
Taking place 3-7 July, the theme for Rural Housing Week 2023 is ‘building a better future for rural communities’.
We will be supporting this year’s campaign by sharing news and stories from around the region and showcasing the great work that communities and partner organisations can achieve by working together to deliver high quality affordable rural housing. If you’re not already, do make sure that you are following us on Twitter and Facebook for updates throughout the week.
Below are the resources we will be sharing during this campaign week.
Stories
While the scale of the rural housing crisis is significant, there are good examples of where communities have risen to the challenge and welcomed small-scale housing developments tailored to local needs.
Podcasts
In our featured podcast this week, Chris France chats through the opportunities for community led housing within the National Parks and the North York Moors.

Useful resources
The limited availability of affordable housing and the impact on rural communities means that residents and partners are now looking to community-led housing for achievable housing options. We’ve put together some useful guides and resources to help you at the different stages of your community led housing project.
